SACRAMENTO, United States, July 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. California's clean energy transition has reached a new milestone, with more than two-thirds of the state's power grid now fueled by renewable and zero-carbon sources, Governor Gavin Newsom said Monday.
Data released by the governor's office showed that 67 percent of California's retail electricity sales in 2023 came from renewable and zero-carbon electricity generation, compared to 61 percent the previous year and around 41 percent a decade ago. The year 2023 is the latest for which such data is available.
According to the governor's office, California's clean energy sources include generation from solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, geothermal and biomass.
California approved a state law in 2018 that mandates a transition to 100 percent clean electricity from renewable, carbon-free sources by 2045. ■
