RIO DE JANEIRO, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan forward Thiago Borbas struck in the 97th minute as Bragantino rose to third in Brazil's Serie A standings on Sunday with a 2-1 away victory over Corinthians.
Eduardo Sasha put the visitors ahead by converting a penalty after central defender Caca brought down forward Vinicinho with a high tackle.
Caca then made amends for his earlier mistake, heading home from close range after the ball rebounded into his path following a corner.
Bragantino regained its lead through Borbas, who fired a first-time shot past Hugo Souza following a scramble inside the six-yard box.
The result leaves Bragantino third in the 20-team standings with 26 points from 13 games, a point behind leader Flamengo, which has a game in hand. Corinthians dropped to 11th, 10 points further back.
"We were rewarded for our collective effort," Bragantino manager Fernando Seabra told a post-match news conference. "There were moments of individual technical skill, but the key was the fact we never stopped working together as a team. We showed that we are growing as a group, and our team spirit can't be faulted."
Elsewhere in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday, Cruzeiro won 4-1 at home to Gremio courtesy of a Kaio Jorge hat-trick and Ceara won 1-0 at Fortaleza. ■
